Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has warned that the club could lose star performer Victor Moses if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.
Moses has refused to commit his long-term future to the club thusfar, with their Premier League status currently in doubt.
Martinez is in no doubt as to the importance of the player, but has conceded they must first safeguard their status in the top-flight if the 21-year-old is to remain with the Latics.
"He plays a massive role for us and is an important asset. There have been developments in the talks over a new agreement, and I am sure we are going to be able to extend his contract," Martinez told The Daily Mail.
"He has said he wants to stay, but the situation of the club has to be resolved first. We have to secure our top-flight status, then we can do it."
Moses signed from Crystal Palace for £2.5m in 2010.
