Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has denied unfavoured keeper Chris Kirkland a loan spell in the Championship.
Kirkland was replaced as first choice Wigan goalie by Ali Al-Habsi after letting in ten goals in the opening two games last season.
Since then he has struggled to find first-team football and missed out on a start during Wigan’s Carling Cup defeat to Crystal Palace this week.
"We had phone calls in the window but it was nothing serious because we didn’t want him to go," Martinez said.
"The good thing is he has not accepted being number two to Ali and I don’t want him to accept it. He has been very important in the past to Wigan and he has massive role in our dressing room."
Kirkland won an England cap when he came on in as a second-half sub against Greece in 2006.
