Hannover claimed just their second Bundesliga victory of the season against Wolfsburg at the HDI Arena on Friday night.
It was a second meeting in a week-and-a-half for the two sides after Wolfsburg won their DFB Cup clash but Hannover turned the tables in a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Linton Maina and Ihlas Bebou.
The opening goal came in the 31st minute when Bebou set up Maina who shot beyond Koen Casteels.
Wolfsburg pushed hard for an equaliser but instead it was Hannover who moved further in front in the 62nd minute after they were awarded a penalty.
William fouled Marvin Bakalorz and Bebou found the bottom corner from the spot to give the hosts a bit of breathing space.
Wolfsburg had dominated possession and chances and were given the opportunity to halve the deficit with their own spot-kick eight minutes from time after Miiko Albornoz brought down Yannick Gerhardt.
Wout Weghorst made no mistake but ultimately it counted for nothing.
