Kenny Jackett: 'The win wasn't pretty'

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett praises his side's "hard-earned" win over Reading but concedes that the victory "wasn't pretty".

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has reflected on a "hard-earned" victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Reading at Molineux.

A first-half strike from James Henry was enough to hand the Midlands side all three points and their first home win in almost three months.

Brian McDermott's visitors dominated possession, however, and had 24 shots to the home side's six, but Jackett feels that team spirit was responsible for protecting their early lead.

"We all stuck together, the players worked very hard for each other and, although it wasn't pretty we got a win," he told the club's official website. "It's our first here for some time, which is a big step for the players to be able to build on.

"We really had to dig in to be able to get that win. We'd love to go and dominate and play good football. But there's been times when we've played very good football within games, and had outstanding passages, but then basically given away too many goals to be in with a chance of earning points.

"It was a very hard-earned win against a very good Reading side. We restricted them to very few chances and defended for our lives at times."

Wolves now sit 16th in the Championship, nine points adrift of the top six.
