Stale Solbakken reveals that he does not intend to make major changes to his Wolverhampton Wanderers squad this summer.

Stale Solbakken has revealed that he does not intend to make wholesale changes to his Wolverhampton Wanderers squad this summer.

The Norwegian, who was unveiled as the new Wolves boss yesterday afternoon, has inherited a squad that has recently been relegated to the Championship.

While accepting that certain players will inevitably head for the Molineux exit doors, the 44-year-old boss has insisted that the club are not in a position where they need to sell players.

When asked if he expected some of his squad to request transfers back to the Premier League, Solbakken replied: "They should have thought about that before shouldn't they? I think there is a mix. Players will probably come and players will probably go.

"Some players we will desperately want to stay and some we will want to sell. When I come back for good in July and see all the players I will make a decision.

"We don't need to sell and players are on contract. The club is ambitious and we don't want radical changes just for the sake of it. At the moment we will go on with everything."

Club owner Steve Morgan has revealed that the former Wimbledon player turned down the chance of managing a club that will compete in the Champions League in favour of filling the Wolves vacancy.

Explaining his reasoning behind the decision, Solbakken said: "I could have trained in another country and been in the Champions League but I have been there for some seasons. I've played a lot of games in Europe.

"The one thing that is good for me here is that I had a good conversation [with Morgan] and a good feeling in the stomach. It was a new challenge that I hadn't had before in these circumstances."

Solbakken has previously managed Ham Kam, Copenhagen and FC Cologne.
