The Football League expresses its disappointment at FIFA's proposal to hold the 2022 Qatar World Cup in winter.

The Football League has revealed that it is "disappointed" by FIFA's proposal to stage the 2022 Qatar World Cup in winter.

A FIFA task force has recommended that the tournament be played in November and December due to the country's intense summer heat.

The final decision is expected to be made next month at a FIFA executive committee meeting in Zurich.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore hit out at the proposal on Tuesday, claiming that the interests of the European leagues had been ignored by world football's governing body.

Football League counterpart Shaun Harvey has now added his voice to concerns over the staging of the tournament.

"We note the recommendation by the FIFA task force that the 2022 World Cup should now be played in November and December," he said in an official Football League statement.

"We are disappointed by this recommendation as we could have reasonably expected the tournament to be played at the end of our 2021-22 season given that was the basis upon which the tender process was conducted.

"Clearly, there will be any number of questions to raise with FIFA once the final decision is confirmed so that we can discuss the practical implications with our clubs and other stakeholders in order to keep any fixture disruption to an absolute minimum."

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke confirmed on Wednesday that compensation would not be paid to clubs and leagues for any disruption that the 2022 World Cup may cause to their schedules.
