Prince Ali to support Russia, Qatar World Cups

FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali insists that he will not move the 2018 or 2022 World Cups from Russia and Qatar respectively.

Prince Ali has insisted that he will "support" the decision to award Russia and Qatar the next two World Cups if he becomes the new FIFA president.

Ali is one of five candidates currently in the running to replace Sepp Blatter in the FIFA presidential race, with the election due to take place in February of next year.

Both the 2018 World Cup, to be held in Russia, and the 2022 edition in Qatar have drawn allegations over illegal practices during the bidding process, but Ali insists that the tournaments will not be moved, as long as Qatar in particular can implement adequate human rights and labour laws.

"As far as I am concerned, I accept and I will support the World Cup happening in Russia and happening in Qatar," he told reporters.

"But again there are lots of things coming out and there are a lot of steps that need to be taken to make sure they are implemented. I think that every country in the world has the right to host the World Cup.

"That's the key, however we have to guarantee that major issues such as human rights and labour laws are implemented. They have said they are going to do it, FIFA needs to guarantee that it is done."

Jerome Champagne, Gianni Infantino, Sheikh Salman and Tokyo Sexwale are all also in the running to replace Blatter.
