Charlton Athletic claimed a priceless 3-2 victory over relegation rivals Yeovil Town in the Championship this evening.
The home side took the lead in the 10th minute through on-loan striker Astrit Ajdarevic, who latched on to a pass from Michael Morrison and found the bottom corner from outside the box.
It took Yeovil less than a minute to respond, Joel Grant turning in David Hayter's pass inside the area to make it 1-1 with 11 minutes on the clock.
Both sides created plenty of opportunities during a hard-fought first half, Tom Lawrence coming closest for Yeovil in the 37th minute when his effort came back off the bar.
Charlton edged their noses in front three minutes into the second period when Johnnie Jackson's cross was headed home by Dorian Dervite from close range, and it didn't take them long to extend their advantage.
Marvin Sordell added a third moments later after good work by Reza Ghoochanneijhad, rifling one into the bottom corner from inside the box to give Yeovil a mountain to climb.
The visitors made fight of it, pulling one back through Kieffer Moore in the 74th minute to give the home fans a nervous finish to endure.
Liam Davis had the chance to salvage a vital point for Yeovil deep into stoppage time, but he was unable to find the target, and his team remain rooted to the foot of the table.
