McLaren's Fernando Alonso says that he is feeling motivated and ready for a new challenge as he prepares for next month's Formula 1 return.

Fernando Alonso has confessed that McLaren-Honda are currently experiencing a "very challenging" time, with the Formula 1 season now just one month away.

The two-time world champion returned to the Woking-based constructor this term following five years at Ferrari, in which time he endured a frustrating period where he was unable to add to his title count.

His homecoming has not been the smoothest, however, with the return of Honda as engine supplier, but Alonso is confident that he can still achieve great success on the track.

"This is a very challenging time for all of us in trying to succeed with this project, but I am very excited to be part of the McLaren-Honda family after many years in F1," he is quoted as saying by Planet F1.

"We will be ready for some victories, hopefully soon. After many years in F1 I feel new motivation and the fresh adrenaline of fighting with the best possible team. My message for the fans is to support us and enjoy the season as we will do our best and be ready to take victories soon."

Alonso last won a race back at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.
