Porsche has postponed an expected announcement regarding their full driver lineup for this year's fabled Le Mans 24 hour race, igniting speculation about Sebastian Vettel's potential return to premier motorsport.

Last week, the Volkswagen Group's esteemed German brand revealed that the retired four-time Formula 1 world champion would take the helm for a thorough test at Spain's Aragon circuit, piloting the Porsche 963 hypercar, designed for Le Mans competition.

The 36-year-old remarked he would "see what happens next" following the test. Completing an exhaustive 118 laps on Tuesday, he subsequently expressed that the experience was "definitely fun."

"I know many drivers who are active in the WEC and Le Mans," the ex-Formula 1 driver shared. "At some point, my curiosity peaked, and I decided to see for myself what it was like."

Jonathan Diuguid, the managing director of Porsche Penske Motorsport, highlighted the significance of Vettel's presence, stating, "Having Sebastian here is a unique opportunity for the team. He is a four-time Formula 1 world champion. We are delighted to have him with us."

Although Porsche has already finalized its driver lineup for the regular two cars at Le Mans, the company plans to introduce a third works car for the famous event in June.

According to German publication Motorsport Aktuell, Vettel matched the pace of Porsche's regular works drivers during his initial test. Auto Motor und Sport has reported that Porsche consequently delayed the March 28 announcement concerning the third car's driver lineup for Le Mans.

"He emerged from the car with a smile," Diuguid noted, indicating a positive outcome from the test. body check tags ::
