Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Mason Mount will be back in the squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with Burnley at Old Trafford.
In a further boost for the 20-time English champions, Ten Hag revealed that Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Anthony Martial are all in line to return to action before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
The Red Devils still have significant injury issues, with Tyrell Malacia, Martial, Shaw, Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Marcus Rashford, Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala on the sidelines.
However, Mount will return to action this weekend after a two-game absence with a slight muscular problem, while a positive update has also been provided on Shaw, Martinez and Martial.
"So same squad but apart from Mason Mount. He will return into the squad," Ten Hag told reporters when asked about the club's injury situation ahead of Saturday's game against Vincent Kompany's side.
Mason Mount will be back in the squad on Saturday
"I think we will see them [Shaw, Martinez and Martial] all in the season. They all returned onto the pitch. Next week, they have to make the step into team training and they can be available for the last weeks. They progress well."
Man United are again set to be missing seven defenders for the clash against Burnley, which is likely to mean another start in the middle of the defence for Casemiro.
The Red Devils twice came from behind to record a 4-2 victory over Sheffield United in Wednesday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford, and the team will now be bidding to make it successive victories on Saturday.
Ten Hag insisted that the home supporters remain behind the Red Devils despite the team's struggles during the 2023-24 campaign.
"I think the fans are behind us always. We are entering Old Trafford, I heard the reception. Wednesday was louder than I have heard. Also away: always supportive, backing the team and there is a very good connection between the team and the fans," he added.
Will Ten Hag make any changes against Burnley?
Mount is not expected to be brought into the XI on Saturday due to his injury problems this season, with an appearance off the bench much more likely.
Ten Hag will certainly be considering making changes for this game, though, with Scott McTominay an option to replace Christian Eriksen in the middle of midfield.
McTominay was a slight doubt for the Sheffield United match due to an injury which he picked up in the semi-final of the FA Cup against Coventry City, but the Scotland international appeared off the bench last time out and could now come into the XI.
Amad Diallo is also pushing for a spot in the side and could take the place of Antony, who failed to make the most of an opportunity as a starter against Sheffield United.
The back four will remain in place, largely due to the lack of options, while Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are again certain starters for the 20-time English champions this weekend. body check tags ::
