Martin Whitmarsh is confident that the McLaren team can improve after Lewis Hamilton's victory.

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has hailed his team for showing belief after Lewis Hamilton cruised to victory at the Nurburgring in the German Grand Prix.

After Jenson Button’s win in Canada, the McLaren team have failed to succeed in three races and questions were raised over Whitmarsh’s ability as team boss.

Despite the mounting pressure, Hamilton managed to end victorious on Sunday which in turn has calmed down any concerns.

"We're a pretty resilient team, we've good people and we don't pay too much attention to what others think," Sky Sports quotes Whitmarsh as saying.

"Of course, we're tough on ourselves. We don't like not winning.

“But all that stuff we had, and I enjoyed two weeks ago, you have to remember we were second in the world championship, more than 50 points ahead of Ferrari, ahead of some pretty big teams."

The 53-year-old CEO believes that the recent dip in form has not affected the team spirit amongst the drivers.

"We lapped some pretty good teams in Germany, so we believe in ourselves, but we also believe we can be better,” he added.

"At the same time we also know we're not too bad either, which just proves the resilience, the toughness of this team."

McLaren are placed 112 points below Red Bull in the constructors’ championship.
