Mark Webber has said that he thought he would have time to complete one more lap during the final part of qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix earlier today.

The Red Bull driver will start tomorrow's race at Sepang from fifth after failing to do a flying lap when the track was at its fastest.

The Australian told Autosport.com: "I think we got the best from the car when we were pushing, but we didn't push when the track was at its quickest.

"I was saving my inters for the last run, but the information I had on when the session was going to finish was a little bit different to what I thought. I got the flag and I wasn't expecting the flag. I thought we had more time.

"If you look at a scrubbed tyre against a new tyre toe-to-toe in the same conditions I was probably going to struggle against [Sebastian Vettel], but we could certainly have done a stronger lap time."

Vettel, Webber's teammate, will start the race from pole position.
