The 2022 Russian Grand Prix has been postponed after the country moved forward with a military invasion of Ukraine.
On Thursday morning, president Vladimir Putin ordered mass troops to cross the border in a move which has been globally condemned and financial restrictions being put in place.
The sporting response has seen UEFA switch the Champions League final from St Petersburg to Paris, while Russian sports stars have called for an end to the developing situation.
German driver Sebastian Vettel also spoke out on Thursday by saying that he would not be participating in the Russian Grand Prix if Formula 1 officials insisted that it went ahead.
However, in an official statement, F1 said on Friday that "it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances".
As with the Champions League final, the race had been scheduled to take place in St Petersburg. body check tags ::
