Graeme McDowell says that his aim during the second round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship was to "spoil" a potential third-round pairing of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Graeme McDowell has said that he will be happy to be challenging the top of the leaderboard at the WGC-Cadillac Championship come the back nine on Sunday.

The Northern Irishman (11-under) has carded 66 and 67 in his opening two rounds at Doral, which has launched him into second place, two shots off leader Tiger Woods (13-under).

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson has shot back-to-back rounds of 67 and is lurking on 10-under, tied for third with Steve Stricker.

McDowell said that his immediate goal was to be in tomorrow's the final pairing, preventing the American fans a "dream pairing" of Woods and Mickelson.

"It looks like Tiger has got the eye in round here," McDowell told Sky Sports News.

"I saw Phil on the board and the possibility of the dream pairing of Phil and Tiger tomorrow, and I said to my caddie, 'Let's try and spoil that party'.

"If I can be hanging around come Sunday afternoon on the back nine and give myself a chance, that would be nice."

McDowell's last victory came at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters in 2010.
