Former US Ryder Cup captain Hal Sutton has revealed that he suffered a minor heart attack during play at the ACE Group Classic in Florida.
The 55-year-old withdrew from the event in Naples after eight holes, complaining of illness, and was rushed to hospital where tests showed that he had a blockage in an artery.
Sutton underwent surgery to have a stent inserted and is expected to make a full recovery.
"I had blockage in my heart, so yeah it was a heart attack," Sutton told the Naples Daily News. "They put a stent in and I'm fine now.
"I just said, 'Something's wrong. I don't know what it is."
Sutton, who won the USPGA Championship in 1983, was on the receiving end of a Ryder Cup thumping when he skippered the Americans to an 18 1/2 9 1/2 defeat to Bernhard Langer's European side.
