England rhythmic gymnast Stephani Sherlock: 'We will build on disappointment'

English gymnast Stephani Sherlock is confident that she and her rhythmic gymnastic teammates will build on their fourth-place finish at the Commonwealth Games.

Stephani Sherlock has said that she and her English rhythmic gymnastic teammates will use their fourth-place finish at the Commonwealth Games as a "lesson for the future".

Sherlock, Mimi-Isabella Cesar and Lynne Hutchison could not emulate England's bronze medal from Delhi four years ago as Malaysia beat them into third spot in the team final.

"I am disappointed obviously because we could have got that medal," Sherlock, who was born in Moscow but moved to England when she was 13, told Sports Mole.

"It was really really close, but everything happens for a reason so we just need to work harder and build on this experience. It's a lesson for the future."

At just 17, these Games are Sherlock's first multi-sport meet, and she said that Glasgow's SSE Hydro was the best arena that she has ever been to.

"It's definitely the best ever competition that I've performed at," she added. "This arena is amazing, the crowd was fantastic.

"I'm now really looking forward to tomorrow and showing everyone what I can do."

Sherlock will compete in the individual all-around final on Friday and also the finals for the hoop and ball disciplines on Saturday.
