Sam Tolchard believes that England should have "more of an advantage" at the 2014 Commonwealth Games compared to four years ago in Delhi.

Unlike in 2010, when England progressed through the group stage only to miss out in the next round, this time around the lawn bowls event will take place on a grass surface which is more familiar to British competitors.

"It was tough last time to top the group and then lose two games in about two hours, which were both tight," Tolchard told reporters. "This time we should hopefully have more of an advantage because it's on grass greens which is what we've been playing on for the last few months so it should give us an edge.

"Our sport is all about playing the big shots on the day and getting it right under pressure and playing the bowls at the right time that counts."

England took five medals in the lawn bowls event in 2010.
