The Algerian Football Association has been fined by FIFA after its supporters shone lasers at players during the World Cup clash against Russia.

Television footage showed a green light being aimed in the direction of Igor Akinfeev before the Fennec Foxes' equaliser in the Group H game last week, while fans also lit flares and smoke bombs inside the stadium.

Football governing body FIFA has now taken steps to punish the African nation, with a spokesperson saying: "The Algerian Football Association has been held liable for the improper conduct among its own group of spectators after incidents of crowd disturbance during the World Cup match between Russia and Algeria on June 26, 2014.

"The incidents in question included the use of lasers, Bengal light and smoke bombs. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed a fine of CHF 50,000 (£32,949) and pronounced a reprimand against the Algerian FA."

Algeria progressed through Group H to set up a last-16 meeting with Germany.
