Carlos Tevez insists that he did not injure his calf during a prison kickabout, but instead when "doing strength work at the gym".

Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez has dismissed "bullshit" reports that he picked up an injury during a prison-yard kickabout.

The 34-year-old was rumoured to have damaged his calf last week when taking part in a match while visiting his half-brother at Bouwer's prison.

Tevez has insisted that the injury was sustained during a workout at the gym, however, as he is not 'idiotic' enough to take part in a football match with criminals.

Speaking to TyC Sports, the former Juventus ace said: "Doing strength work at the gym last Wednesday morning, on the machine I felt a great pain in my calf.

"I do not know why some people do not believe me. If I had not been injured at the gym, I would not be so stupid to say I was injured here.

"But as I'm telling you, they begin to speculate about golf or jail. Sometimes they do not know if they talk bullshit or not, but I always tell the truth.

"I will not be such an idiot to expose myself to go to jail. That they talk so much bullshit hurts and makes me stronger, because I have to keep evolving. It's time to shut up and deliver everything on the field."

Tevez returned to Boca earlier this year after a stint in the Chinese Super League, which he described as 'being like a holiday'.
