The ball which clinched the British Open title for Rory McIlroy last month has been sold on an online auction for around £31,000.
The Northern Irishman clinched his first Open at Hoylake before going on to earn back-to-back major titles by winning the US PGA Championship on Sunday.
After sealing victory at the British Open, McIlroy threw the ball into the crowd and it was scooped by Leeds-based Lee Horner, who placed it up for auction on greenjacketauctions.com.
According to golfweek.com, the winning bid, which is said to have come from an American, was around £31,000 after Nike confirmed that the ball was genuine.
Meanwhile, McIlroy, who is a Manchester United fan, has revealed that he will parade the Claret Jug at Old Trafford before the Red Devils' opening Premier League clash against Swansea City.
