Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen hit back at some of the abuse that she received on Twitter over the weekend after posting a Father's Day message to the England forward.
The Manchester United star played a role in Daniel Sturridge's goal against Italy in their World Cup Group D clash on Saturday, but was criticised for his overall performance after the match finished in 2-1 defeat in Manaus.
On Sunday, Coleen posted a message on behalf of her sons Kai and Klay, honouring Rooney on Father's Day. It read: "We love our daddy!! Happy Father's Day...We're so proud of you xxx"
After tweeting the post, the 28-year-old received numerous messages including, "shame he can't play football," and "what's there to be proud of?".
Coleen responded to a number of fellow Twitter users to defend her husband, who is preparing with his England teammates to face Uruguay on Thursday.
