A superstitious Leeds United fan quits his job as a journalist in the belief that he was jinxing the Elland Road club.

A Norwegian journalist has quit his job in the belief that his resignation will spark an upturn in fortunes for his beloved Leeds United.

Superstitious Magnus Sveen, who worked at TV2, believes that his appointment at the television station in 2001 coincides with the club's steep decline over the past 14 years.

Consequently, Sveen has called time on his spell with the company in the hope that his decision will lift what he believes is a curse on the Whites.

In his final news report, he said: "I want to help Leeds United back to their former glory.

"This is my last news story. It has just brought them bad luck anyway. That's the last thing Leeds need now."

United, who participated in a Champions League semi-final in 2001 before slipping down the English leagues in the following years, sit 20th in the Championship table, one point clear of the relegation zone.

Sveen also refuses to wear a Leeds shirt to a match ever since failing to do so on the day when Tony Yeboah netted a wonder goal against Wimbledon in 1995.
