The Hillsborough memorial at Anfield has been moved and put into storage in preparation for the stadium expansion.
The club held a service for the families of the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the 1989 tragedy to mark plans to relocate the tribute to a specially designed colonnade close to the extended Main Stand.
A temporary memorial has been put in place at the Centenary Stand for people to pay their respects until construction is completed in the 2016-17 season.
Chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group Margaret Aspinall told the club's official website: "I'd like to thank the club for involving us from the beginning of the expansion project and taking our views into account for the future of our Hillsborough Memorial."
The eternal flame from the memorial has been taken to the Liverpool Cathedral for the time being.
