Man United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward confirms that the club will investigate the fake bomb scare that caused his side's clash with Bournemouth to be abandoned.

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has announced that the club will investigate the fake bomb scare that caused the club's match against Bournemouth to be abandoned this afternoon.

The Red Devils were scheduled to bring the curtain down on their season today, but shortly before kickoff Old Trafford was evacuated after a suspicious package was found.

Bomb disposal experts were called and performed a controlled explosion on the package, although it has since emerged that the device was accidentally left behind after a training exercise.

"The safety of fans is always our highest priority," read a statement from Woodward.

"I'd like to thank the support from the police which was first class and the impeccable response from fans of both teams.

"The club takes security very seriously and staff are regularly trained with the police and emergency services to identify and deal with these incidents. We will investigate the incident to inform future actions and decisions."

The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 17 at 8pm, just four days before Manchester United play in the FA Cup final.
