Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger has been charged with rape, Northumbria Police have confirmed.
The authorities have revealed that the charge was issued following an incident that occurred during the early hours of January 23 at a hotel in Jesmond.
The 22-year-old has been ordered to appear at the Newcastle Magistrates' Court on August 21, according to Sky Sports News.
Ranger left St James' Park by mutual consent in March this year.
