Nicola Adams has played down her chances of winning this year's Sports Personality of the Year award.

Adams was one of the brightest lights at this summer's Games, winning gold to become the first ever women's boxing Olympic champion, but she finds herself up against a plethora of stars after a phenomenal year for British sport.

The likes of Bradley Wiggins, Andy Murray and Jessica Ennis are among those nominated, and Adams admitted that she would like to see the latter pick up the award.

"I couldn't believe I was up for nomination. I'm going to to the show and have some fun and I know my chances are quite slim," she told PA.

"I hope Jessica Ennis or Katherine Grainger win. I trained alongside Jess and I saw how hard she worked, while Katharine had won so many silvers and then finally won a gold."

This year's Sports Personality of the Year takes place on Sunday.
