The family of Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington have hit back at those criticising the athlete for being exempt from bushtucker trials in the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.
The 24-year-old has not been in contention for three of the ITV show's trials, sparking a backlash from viewers questioning why she is on the programme in the first place.
Adlington's aunt Sonia has insisted that the swimmer does want to take part in the trials but a medical condition, which has not been divulged on the show, has prevented her from doing so.
"It's not Becky's choice," Sonia told The Mirror. "She wants to do the challenges, even eating grubs, but she is not allowed to do some of them on doctor's orders.
"Years of swimming gave her a medical condition, details of which we've been told not to divulge."
Some reports have claimed that asthma is the reason behind Adlington's exemptions.
