Sevilla have announced that manager Eduardo Berizzo is recovering after undergoing successful surgery for prostate cancer.
The 48-year-old was recently diagnosed with the condition, which became publicly known in the aftermath of the Spanish side's 3-3 draw with Liverpool last week.
Berizzo will now spend time recuperating before taking his place on the sidelines, with assistant Ernesto Marcucci being placed in temporary charge of first-team affairs in the meantime.
A Sevilla statement read: "The recovery period of the Argentine coach will depend on the post-operative evolution in the coming days."
Los Rojiblancos, currently fifth in the La Liga table, return to action on Wednesday night with a Copa del Rey tie against Cartagena.
