Sunderland paid tribute to Bradley Lowery ahead of their pre-season meeting against Bury following the young supporter's tragic death.
Football-loving Lowery, who touched the hearts of a nation with his battling spirit, passed away at the age of six on Friday afternoon after a cruel fight with cancer.
The Black Cats were in action a few hours later at Gigg Lane for their opening pre-season friendly fixture, which they would go on to win 3-2 in difficult circumstances.
Prior to the game, both sets of players came together for an emotional minute's applause, while it was also announced that all proceeds from the game will go to the Bradley Lowery Fight charity.
Shortly after the youngster's death was announced by his family, Sunderland released a statement that read: "Our thoughts and prayers are with Bradley's parents, Gemma and Carl, his brother Kieran and their family and friends.
"We extend our love and support to them, now and always. Bradley captured the hearts and minds of everyone at our club with his indomitable spirit, tremendous courage and beautiful smile, which could light up even the darkest of rooms.
"Despite battling neuroblastoma for much of his all too short life, he demonstrated a bravery and fortitude beyond his years that humbled us all. He was truly an inspiration."
Former Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe paid his own tribute to Lowery on Thursday, just 24 hours before his "best friend" lost his battle with cancer.
