Jonjo Shelvey was pictured getting involved in a row with a Swansea City supporter after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by League Two outfit Oxford United on Sunday.
The 23-year-old is rumoured to be seeking a move away from the Liberty Stadium this month amid reports of a falling-out with Swans owner Huw Jenkins.
Shelvey applauded the travelling support after the final whistle at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday, only to be greeted by abuse from one fan. The midfielder then gestured and shouted back at the fan before leaving the field.
"I saw him go over to the fans and I thought everything was OK," Swansea interim manager Alan Curtis said of the incident. "The suggestion is some of the crowd were having a go at him but I genuinely did not see that.
"I heard the crowd sing his name a few times during the game so I do not know what the reaction was. I did not see it and have not had a chance to speak to him as he went for a drugs test."
Rumoured destinations for Shelvey in the winter transfer window include Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.
