Dual-code rugby player Kevin Sinfield will retire from the sport after a 20-year career at the end of the ongoing season.

Kevin Sinfield has confirmed that he will retire from rugby at the conclusion of the ongoing campaign.

The 35-year-old switched codes in November 2015 to help union outfit Yorkshire Carnegie reach the British and Irish Cup final and the end-of-season playoffs.

Prior to that, he won seven Grand Finals, three World Club Challenges and two Challenge Cups with league side Leeds Rhinos.

"I have been privileged and deeply honoured to have enjoyed a 20-year career as a professional rugby player and to retire, on my own terms rather than through injury, is something I feel lucky to be able to do," he told Carnegie's official website.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the last seven months with Yorkshire Carnegie and I would like to thank the coaches, players and supporters for making me feel so welcome.

"A number of opportunities have become available to me for life after rugby and I need to make the right decision for me and my family."

Sinfield finished runner-up to tennis player Andy Murray in last year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
