St Helens have edged closer to the top of the Super League table with a narrow 20-16 win over Warrington Wolves at St James' Park.
Stefan Ratchford and Ben Harrison both went over for the Wolves inside the opening 16 minutes, but Chris Bridge missed both conversions.
St Helens got themselves back in the match midway through the first half when Tommy Makinson converted Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook's try before kicking over a penalty.
However, Warrington extended their advantage soon after as Bridge added the extras to Ryan Atkins's score before kicking over his own penalty to give the Wolves a 16-8 lead at the break.
The St Helens comeback started on 49 minutes when Adam Swift went over, while more points from the boot of Makinson following Jon Wilkin's try put the home side in front for the first time in the match.
Makinson kicked the Saints into a four-point lead with five minutes left to play, and they were able to hold out during a nervy finale to claim the victory.
