The Challenge Cup sixth-round clash between Wigan Warriors and Hull Kingston Rovers will be played 12 miles South of the DW Stadium due to renovation works.

Wigan Warriors have announced that their Challenge Cup sixth-round tie against Hull Kingston Rovers will be played at Leigh Sports Village as a result of work being carried out at the DW Stadium.

The match, which is scheduled to take place on May 15, cannot be held at the Cherry and Whites' home due to renovation on the playing surface.

It means that the cup clash will be played 12 miles South at the 11,000-seater venue in Leigh, which provided the same setting for Wigan's 70-0 victory over London Broncos in 2013.

"The annual work to the DW Stadium pitch is planned to start the week of the Challenge Cup sixth round and for that reason we have had to seek an alternative venue for this game," chairman Ian Lenagan told the club's official website.

"In previous years the Stadium Management and Groundsmen have been able to reduce the amount of repair work to accommodate cup games at the start or end of their schedule. Unfortunately, as we witnessed earlier this year, the condition of the pitch deteriorated rapidly in February and requires major renovation in order to help prevent this happening in future years.

"We have a good relationship with the Stadium Management Company at Leigh Sports Village, having already played there in the 2013 Challenge Cup Semi-Final and the 2011 Academy Grand Final. They have been more than accommodating in allowing us to use the stadium and we are confident that it will provide a fitting venue for what should be a great game."

Hull beat Bradford Bulls 50-30 in the last round to seal their progression.
