Robbie Deans: 'Scotland took chance'

Robbie Deans says that his Australia side did not test the Scotland's rearguard as well as they should have.

Australia coach Robbie Deans has admitted that Scotland took their chance as they claimed their first win in 30 years down under.

Greig Laidlaw held his nerve as he scored with the last quick of the game to hand Scotland a dramatic 9-6 victory in the opening tour match against the Wallabies.

Deans has confessed that he felt the Scottish defence was the difference between the two sides.

"We had enough possession to put the game out of reach but credit to Scotland, they got one opportunity in the second half and took it," Deans said.

"We started the second half pretty well and thought that we had a momentum but then, as tends to happen in conditions like that, when you don't turn the scoreboard over, it gets messier and the opposition grows a leg if you give them that encouragement.

"Anxiety then kicks in and the conditions contributed to that. We lacked the co-ordination to work our way out of it."

Scotland take on Fiji on June 16.
