Stuart Lancaster: 'It takes time to build successful team'

Stuart Lancaster believes that England must focus on the short-term goals if they are to become a team capable of winning the World Cup.

England head coach Stuart Lancaster has insisted that he is still far away from building a team that is capable of winning the World Cup.

Lancaster's side face New Zealand at Twickenham this weekend and he believes that a positive display will give the team momentum as they target victory at the 2015 tournament.

"We're about building a team for the long-term. Our options will expand again further down the line but it's about the here and now," the 44-year-old told reporters.

"The whole context of building a team to win the World Cup is about momentum, and it's about putting the jigsaw pieces together. We still have a fair way to go to reach that stage. It's not about 2015 on Saturday, it's just about Saturday.

"New Zealand went through a period of transition and now they've gone on to become probably the best team in world sport. That's the long-term but for us it's about the here and now."

France knocked England out at the quarter-final stage of the 2011 World Cup.
