England utility back Delon Armitage has received a one-week ban for a dangerous high tackle, meaning that he will miss England's Rugby World Cup quarter-final clash with France on Saturday, October 8.
Armitage faced a hearing in Auckland after being cited for a dangerous tackle on Scotland fullback Chris Paterson during Saturday's 16-12 victory, which left the Scot needing treatment.
The judicial officer said it the offence would normally carry a two-week ban but that the punishment had been reduced after Armitage acknowledged his guilt.
"It's a shame to lose Delon as he has played well but these things happen and we have some quality wings in Mark Cueto and Matt Banahan to choose from," England coach Martin Johnson commented in a statement.
England will name their squad to take on France later this week.
