Italy wing Giovanbattista Venditti has revealed his determination to impress at the World Cup ahead of the start of his career with Newcastle Falcons.
The 25-year-old agreed to move to Newcastle from Zebre in the summer but he is still waiting to join up with his new club teammates due to his focus on Italy's campaign.
A try against France could not prevent Italy from slipping to a 32-10 loss in their Pool D opener at Twickenham on Saturday, and Venditti is hopeful that he can continue to catch the eye with his performances.
"The fact I am staying in England with the Falcons will push me to play even better," he told reporters. "I haven't had the chance to properly visit the club because our build-up has been so long, so I don't know anyone very well there.
"The first time they see me play will be during the World Cup. Hopefully I can play well to make a good impression."
Italy meet Canada in their second match in Leeds on Saturday.
