Simon Cohen, the chief executive of Leicester Tigers, believes that Matthew Tait will remain at the club this summer should his current contract situation be resolved.

Leicester Tigers chief executive Simon Cohen has said that he is "pretty sure" the club can keep hold of utility back Matthew Tait.

The 29-year-old, whose contract expires at Welford Road this summer, had provisionally agreed to join Top 14 outfit Bayonne back in January.

However, uncertainty remains over the French side's future following their recent relegation, which led to Tigers boss Richard Cockerill revealing that there was a strong chance of retaining Tait's services.

These views have now been echoed by Cohen, who told BBC Sport: "If we can resolve it then I am pretty sure he will stay.

"It is everybody's assumption that he had a get-out clause. But I know the situation is a little bit more complicated than that. We are working on it, our lawyers are working on it and Mathew is working on it."

Tait joined Leicester from Sale Sharks in 2011.
