New Zealand beat South Africa 38-27 to retain the Rugby Championship title with an unbeaten record in 2013.

A bonus point win has ensured that New Zealand retain the Rugby Championship title, beating South Africa.

The All Blacks made a strong start, as Ben Smith scored the first try of the match after just 11 minutes, before Bryan Habana added a brace for the hosts.

Liam Messam scored two of his own before half time, giving the championship leaders the lead at the break.

Messam was shown a yellow card early in the second half, allowing Willie le Roux to burst over the line to give the Springboks the lead again, before Jean de Villiers added their fourth of the tie.

Beauden Barrett made a late impact for the visitors, adding a try before converting a Kieran Read effort to seal the bonus point needed for New Zealand to clinch the title.

South Africa had a chance to reduce New Zealand's lead late on, as Ben Franks was sent to the sin bin, but were unable to reduce their opponents' lead, ensuring that the All Blacks remain unbeaten in the tournament for a second consecutive year.
