Five more members of the All Blacks squad commit their immediate futures to New Zealand rugby.

Five members of the All Blacks squad have committed their immediate futures to New Zealand beyond next month’s Rugby World Cup, joining the likes of Dan Carter and Ma’a Nonu.

23-year-old prop Owen Franks has extended his contract with the New Zealnd Rugby Union and Crusaders for three years, while clubmates halfback Andy Ellis and winger Zac Guildford have both re-signed for two years.

Centre Richard Kahui has re-signed for two years with New Zealand and the Chiefs, while Blues and All Blacks utility back Isaia Toeava has extended his New Zealand and Blues contract through to the end of 2012.

The five players join a growing group of current and recent All Blacks who have re-committed to play their rugby in New Zealand after this year’s World Cup, including captain Richie McCaw and star fly-half Dan Carter.

“This is where I want to be,” said 23-times capped Owen Franks. “It’s been an exceptional and challenging year for the Crusaders but it is important to me that I continue my rugby with the franchise and for the All Blacks.”

NZRU CEO Steve Tew welcomed the news that so many players are committed to New Zealand rugby.

“We always knew that it was critical to retain as many All Blacks as possible post-Rugby World Cup 2011 to ensure continuity for both the franchises and the national team,” he said.

“It’s encouraging to see that the All Blacks jersey means so much to our top echelon of players. We have worked very hard to achieve this result and it’s incredibly pleasing to have all of these form players on board next year.”

The All Blacks kick off their World Cup campaign against Tonga on Friday, September 9.
