Edinburgh are still without a win in this season's Heineken Cup as they lost 19-9 at Racing Metro.
Greig Laidlaw's early penalty for the visitors was cancelled out by Olly Barkley before Juan Jose Imhoff's unconverted try gave Racing an 8-3 lead.
Barkley kicked over again with 30 minutes on the clock, but Laidlaw had the final say of the half when he scored his second penalty of the evening.
Laidlaw added three more points just after the hour to edge Edinburgh to within seven points of their opponents, but the result was put beyond doubt in the dying stages when Barkley scored a third penalty.
