Dan Braid has signed a new one-year contract at Sale Sharks with an additional agreement to then join the club's coaching staff.
The 33-year-old former All Black has become a key asset at the AJ Bell Stadium since joining from Auckland Blues in 2007, thanks largely to his strong leadership qualities which saw him named as captain.
Braid will now continue with his career at Sharks, where upon retiring he will become assistant coach as he opens up a new chapter in his career.
"We are absolutely delighted that Dan has signed on for another season as a player and that he will then will be coming on board as assistant coach," Steve Diamond told the club's official website.
"He provides a lot of knowledge and has a real presence all around the club. He's still got a year left in him as a player and he's a big leader on the field and its great to know that will then be transposed into our coaching team.
"Dan's settled in really well here ever since arriving and leads by example and he's got all the qualities that you want in a player."
Sale, who are currently sixth in the Aviva Premiership table, are back in action on Saturday when they play host to Saracens.
