Saracens opened up their Heineken Cup campaign with a convincing victory over Benetton Treviso at Vicarage Road this afternoon.

Owen Farrell claimed the majority of the points for Sarries, claiming one try, while also kicking two conversations and three penalties.

Also putting points on the board for the home side was David Strettle, Chris Wyles and Ernst Joubert, who all went over the line for tries.

There was also a try for South African debutant John Smit.

The Italian visitors' first score of the match came from Willem de Waal, who converted a penalty before the break.

They also claimed two late tries through Franco Sbaraglini and Gonzalo Padro, both of which were converted by De Waal.

Next weekend Sarries travel to Biarritz.
