Ulster pick up their first win of their European Champions Cup campaign by beating the Scarlets 24-9.

Ulster claimed victory for the first time in their European Champions Cup campaign by beating the Scarlets 24-9 at the Kingspan Stadium.

The Scarlets were ahead in the third minute when Rhys Priestland comfortably split the posts from inside 22 yards with a penalty.

However, the visitors were then put under pressure when James Davies was sent to the sin bin for a late tackle, and Ulster capitalised on the temporary numerical advantage.

Tommy Bowe led the charge for Ulster before turning to Darren Cave, who took advantage of the space on offer to run over for an easy try.

The lead was extended three minutes later when the influential Ruan Pienaar battled past Scott Williams for the try, which was followed by a second conversion from Ian Humphreys.

Priestland reduced the deficit with another penalty, but the Scarlets were dealt another blow when Liam Williams became the second player to go to the bin for flipping Louis Ludik.

Impressive defensive performances from both sides in the second half saw the pace of the game slow until Priestland boosted his side's chances with a penalty as the wind started to pick up.

Officials needed a replay in the 59th minute, and the home fans were left celebrating when the video referee confirmed that Bowe had scored a try with a desperate effort in the corner.

The men from Llanelli struggled to produce a response in the latter stages, and Ulster were able to complete the win in style when Rory Best used the maul to go over for his side's fourth try of the night.
