Pierre Spies is expected to miss the remainder of the Super Rugby campaign after suffering a torn bicep in South Africa's win over Samoa at the weekend.
The 28-year-old, who captains the Bulls, saw two specialists on Tuesday when it was revealed that he will have to undergo surgery to repair the damage, according to Sky Sports News.
It is believed that Bulls team doctor Org Strauss does not expect the back row to be fit for the remainder of the Super League season or the Rugby Championship.
Spies has 53 South African caps to his name.
