South Africa avenge last week's loss to Argentina by recording a 26-12 victory in Buenos Aires.

South Africa have avenged last week's loss to Argentina by recording a comfortable 26-12 win over the Pumas in Buenos Aires.

Argentina beat the Springboks for the first time in their history with a 37-25 triumph at Kings Park, and the early signs suggested it would be a tight contest as Patrick Lambie split the posts twice either side of a Nicolas Sanchez penalty.

Heyneke Meyer's side started to take control midway through the first half as three attacking line-outs eventually produced a reward when Bryan Habana broke away to cross the line for his 59th international try.

Schalk Burger and Victor Matfield combined impressively for the next try as the Springboks sliced open the home side to release Lwazi Mvovo, who held off a couple of challenges to extend the lead.

Lambie's fine night continued as he converted for the second time, but Argentina reduced the deficit before the interval thanks to two more penalties from Sanchez

The introduction of Lambie was one of eight changes made by Meyer, whose decision continued to be vindicated when the fly-half made it 23-9 with a drop goal early in the second half.

Regular changes affected the rhythm of both sides in a defence-dominated second half, but the kickers remained on top form as Lambie split the posts again after Sanchez had scored his fourth penalty of the night.

Argentina's hopes of setting up a late comeback were dealt a blow when Tomas Lavanini was sent to the sin-bin with 17 minutes remaining, and the visitors eased to the win in the closing stages as the Springboks recovered from a winless Rugby Championship campaign.
