Jonny Wilkinson has described Toulon's victory in the final of the Heineken Cup as "hugely important".
The club beat French rivals Clermont Auvergne 16-15 at the Aviva Stadium yesterday evening to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.
The former England fly-half told Sky Sports News: "The guys worked so hard together against a great team. It takes everything you've got. We hung in there and got the rub of the green. The difference between winning and losing [is small].
"It has been hugely important. You ask yourselves the questions all the time whether you still merit being there, whether you still deserve to be in teams like this.
"Moments like this give you that opportunity to look at it and realise what an amazing opportunity we all have. This is my world now, this team, this game."
It is the first time in Wilkinson's career that he has been part of a team that have won the tournament.
