Warren Gatland: 'Wales will not single out Sam Burgess'

Wales coach Warren Gatland claims that his side will not single out inexperienced England centre Sam Burgess in Saturday's Rugby World Cup Pool A match at Twickenham.

Wales coach Warren Gatland has claimed that his side will not single out England centre Sam Burgess in Saturday's Rugby World Cup Pool A match.

Rugby league convert Burgess, who starts at Twickenham after an injury to Jonathan Joseph, has featured in only 112 minutes of rugby union action at international level.

Despite this, Gatland played down reports of focusing solely on the 26-year-old, telling BBC Sport: "He's got inexperience at rugby [union], but not at big occasions.

"He is a big man at 6'5". You don't single out anyone personally, you just concentrate on yourself. We won't be trying to single out Sam Burgess at all, we will be going out there to smash him like everyone else.

"We're not rubbing our hands together about one player thinking there's a weakness there - that is not the way we look at it. When you underestimate a player, it comes back to bite you. You can't single out any one individual."

England boss Stuart Lancaster has also handed starts to Owen Farrell and Billy Vunipola for the Pool A fixture.
