Australia's Emily Seebohm beats 2013 champion Missy Franklin in the final of the women's 200m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

Australia's Emily Seebohm has beaten defending champion Missy Franklin in the final of the women's 200m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships.

The 23-year-old set an Oceanic record with a time of 2:05.81 to finish over half a second clear of the American, who won the title in the same event two years ago.

The gold is Seebohm's third of the meeting, having also won the 100m backstroke and the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Hungary's Katinka Hosszu, who had been fastest in the semi-finals, completed the podium, while fourth-placed Daria Ustinova of Russia broke the world junior record with a time of 2:07.64.
